If you have an iPhone 4 Unlocked with Gevey Sim running iOS 4.x.x and you want to update to iOS 5.0.1 firmware with Gevey Unlock. In order to update you must first preserve your unlockabe iPhone 4 baseband that can be unlocked with Gevey SIM.

Note: In order to do this you will need to restore your iPhone 4 with custom iOS 5.0.1 ipsw with Redsn0w 0.9.10b5 to preserve the unlockable baseband.

What is Gevey Sim:

Gevey Sim is hardware that unlocks iPhone 4 running on baseband 01.59.00, 02.10.04, 03.10.01, and 04.10.01 on the iOS 4.x.x, and iOS 5.x.x.

Required Downloads:

• Download Redsn0w 0.9.10b5 for Windows. (be sure to run in Administrator mode)
  Download Redsn0w 0.9.10b5 for Mac.
• Download iOS 5.0.1 ipsw for iPhone 4
• Download iTunes 10.5.3 for Windows and Mac

How To Unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 5 with Gevey SIM

Step 1: Connect your device with your PC via USB and open Redsn0w.

Step 2: Now select Extras and then select “Custom IPSW” option so that you can create your pre-jailbroken custom firmware.

It will start cooking your custom iOS 5 ispw firmware

Step 3: Next click on “Pwned DFU” on the screen.

Step 4: In this step make sure your device is Turned Off and Plugged In to your PC

Next you will have to enter the DFU Mode. To do that, follow the onscreen instructions to get your device in the DFU Mode.

Step 5: Once you’re in the DFU Mode Open iTunes and restore your iPhone 4 to the Custom iOS 5 ipsw (the file name begins with NO_BB.)

redsn0w version b5 incorporates yet another fix for iBooks, this time involving DRM.  @planetbeing wrote a utility called “crazeles” that overcomes jailbreak detection by iBooks that would cause about 10% of images to show incorrectly.  This fix is similar to the “hunnypot” fix that @comex wrote for the 4.x jailbreak.  As usual, you can choose to install the fix either by re-running redsn0w over your existing jailbreak (de-select Cydia if you do that), or by installing the corona package from Cydia (it’s the same set of files no matter which way you choose).

Notes: If you decided to update your Redsnow to the new version RedSn0w 0.9.10b5 you can do this by re-jailbreaking your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad with RedSn0w 0.9.10b5 over the old-redsnow but without without select install Cydia option.

Here’s a quick breakdown of how many A5 owners have jailbroken their devices since Friday morning.  The numbers as of Monday afternoon are:

• 491,325 new iPhone4,1 devices
• 308,967 new iPad2 devices
• 152,940 previously jailbroken (at 4.x) iPad2 devices

Total: 953,232 new A5 jailbreaks in a little over 3 days

STEP 1: Download Absinthe Jailbreak v.0.2

STEP 2: After done downloading open Absinthe jailbreak in Administrator mode then plugin your iPhone 4S/ iPad 2:

STEP 3: Now allow the app to recognize your device and you will find ‘Jailbreak” button appeared.

STEP 4: After the program is done running (and not a second before), go to your device’s home screen and locate the Absinthe icon. Click it. This executes the final stage of the jailbreak.

STEP 5: Now after the jailbreak is done, your device will restart and then you should see Cydia installed on your device

Update: Fix “Error Establishing a Database Connection” While Jailbreaking with Absinthe

Simply go to Settings > General > Network > VPN > ON. And sure you will not see this error message again.

Update: Fix Camera Roll Error After Jailbreaking iPhone 4S And iPad 2

You can do so, simply by rerunning the jailbreak on the your iDevice.

It must be optimized for the model iDevice A5 and therefore no change to v1.1.3 on a model A4.

Since Cydia 1.1.3 you may have noticed that the Cydia application is very stable and does not crash as before.

How to jailbreak iPhone 4S / iPad 2 5.0.1 untethered with Greenpois0n Absinthe :

Step 1: Connect your iPhone 4S / iPad 2 with your PC via USB, and open iTunes then Restore to iOS 5.0.1.

Step 1: Download Greenpois0n Absinthe, then unzip and run the file.

Step 2: Connect your iPhone 4S / iPad 2 with your PC via USB.

Step 3: Simply click on “Jailbreak” button follow the steps appear on the greenpois0n screen.

Step 4: Once completed, you should see an Absinthe icon on the Home screen. Tap the Absinthe icon, it will open GreenPois0n site, and will then reboot your device. Once it loads again, the Cydia icon will have replaced the Absinthe icon. Non enjoy your iPhone 4S / iPad 2 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak.
