A computer programmer has been charged with stealing source code worth $9.5m from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, according to the FBI and prosecutors.

Bo Zhang, a 32-year-old from Queens in New York, was cuffed on suspicion of swiping the Government-wide Accounting and Reporting (GWA) software, used to help keep track of the US government’s finances.

Zhang was hired as a contractor to work on the code where it’s held in an access-controlled electronic repository in New York. During last summer he allegedly stole the GWA code, which has so far cost the US $9.5m to develop.

“According to the complaint, Zhang admitted that in July 2011, while working at the Fed, he checked out and copied the GWA code onto his hard drive at the Fed; he subsequently copied the GWA code onto an Fed-owned external hard drive; and he connected that external hard-drive to his private office computer, his home computer, and his laptop,” the US attorney’s office added.

“Zhang stated that he used the GWA Code in connection with a private business he ran training individuals in computer programming.”

Despite Zhang’s rather innocuous purported use for the code, he was arrested by the FBI on Wednesday morning and now faces up to ten years in prison and fines of up to $250,000.

“Zhang took advantage of the access that came with his trusted position to steal highly sensitive proprietary software. His intentions with regard to that software are immaterial. Stealing it and copying it threatened the security of vitally important source code,” FBI assistant director-in-charge Janice K Fedarcyk said.

A New York Fed spokesperson told Reuters and others that the bank had investigated the breach as soon as it was uncovered and promptly referred the case to the authorities.

“The New York Fed has further strengthened its already considerable protections as a result of this incident,” the spokesman said

People like George Lucas, Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen have already pledged to join Gates in that kind of movement.

I recently watched the short version of this advert on TV (I dont watch much TV though) and thought it was going to be about a documentary that deals with parking tickets in England. It starts off with people parking in places and getting the surprise of a ticket, different people react differently, men seem to get angry and want to get a straight answer from the ticket master, others prefer to deal with it angrily, women tend to use a more emotional charge and start to jump and cry in some cases.

I find it a bit funny how the FBI gets involved when a celebrities naked photos are leaked onto the internet.

Now that the photos have been leaked, probably the FBI team have seen them and wont investigate further.

“The FBI is investigating the person or groups responsible for a series of computer intrusions involving high-profile figures,” said Laura Eimiller of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) office in Los Angeles.

The photos were obviously taken by herself to share them with one of the other fellow actors she has been dating.

The FBI talks about computer hacking, but they probably have not thought that she probably has the photos synced to her mobile phone as well, these days phone hacking is on the rise – so this would be one of the first things I would check.

  Volvo revealed its newest concept luxury car at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and finally answers the question of how many touch screens you can cram into a car’s interior. Hint: It’s four.

Dubbed the Concept You, this prototypical luxury sedan is packed to the gills with technology. The control center consists of a digital Driver Information Center (aka a dashboard), a Heads-Up Display that projects onto the front windshield, two large touch screens—one on the center console, the other between the rear seats, and two smaller screens on the aluminum and glass shifter paddles mounted on the steering wheel.

The main screen, the one on the center console, activates just by looking at it. Granted it’s just a hidden infrared camera that registers the driver’s eye movement but that’s still pretty slick—though I’d find myself constantly trying to catch a glimpse of the screen before it turns on. And, rather than the unholy input puck of the BMW iDrive, the Concept You registers hand movements to turn on the system’s control mode. The front passenger can also use gesture activation but the menu options will differ from those offered to the driver.

“Certain functions, such as surfing the web, are only accessible from the passenger side while the car is rolling. The technology knows who is the present operator and adapts itself automatically,” said Peter Horbury, Vice President Design at Volvo Car Corporation.

Data can even be transferred from the main screen to the HUD or back to the rear depending on the direction the driver “flips” it.

The 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show runs from September 15 to September 25, 2011.

Here is what Carol Bartz thinks of the Yahoo (YHOO) board that fired her: “These people fucked me over,” she says, in her first interview since her dismissal from the CEO role late Tuesday.

Last evening, barely 24 hours after Yahoo chairman Roy Bostock called Bartz on her cell phone to tell her the news, she called from her Silicon Valley home (“There are reporters at the gate… a lot of them.”) to tell Fortune, exclusively, how the ax came down.

On Tuesday, Bartz was in New York, to speak at Citigroup’s (C) technology conference the next day, when she was supposed to call Bostock at 6 p.m. “I called him at 6:06,” she recalls. When he got on the line, she says, he started reading a lawyer’s prepared statement to dismiss her.

“I said, ‘Roy, I think that’s a script,’” adding, “‘Why don’t you have the balls to tell me yourself?’”

When Bostock finished reading, Bartz didn’t argue—”I got it. I got it,” she told the Yahoo chairman. “I thought you were classier,” she added.
